McKenzie Heller Receives $5,000 Scholarship from Southwest Engineers Inc.
GONZALES, TEXAS – July 21, 2015 – Southwest Engineers Inc., a full-service civil and environmental engineering consulting firm, today announced it has awarded a 2015 Texas Civil and Environmental Engineering Scholarship to Yoakum High School student, McKenzie Heller. Heller, an active student who leads her class academically, plans to attend Texas A&M University to pursue a degree in Environmental Engineering.
As a National Honor Society member and in the top 10 percent of her class, Heller has served as a mentor in the PALS program where she worked with elementary students. In addition, she has been active in Interact, a Yoakum Rotary Club organization, FFA, the Heritage Museum and St. Joseph Catholic Church. Heller has also volunteered with fundraising and other community activities. In 2014, Heller was named Miss Yoakum Royalty by the Yoakum Chamber of Commerce and received a $200 scholarship. During high school, Heller has participated in competitive cheerleading as well as both the Lady Bulldog softball and volleyball teams.
Heavily influenced by her studies about environmental protection, Heller states, “I want to become an environmental engineer to help make a difference, so generations that follow can enjoy a beautiful environment.”

In its ninth year, the Southwest Engineering Scholarship Program has awarded more than $30,000 in scholarship funds to aspiring civil and/or environmental engineering Texas students.
